Free Zoo Admission with "We Bought a Zoo"

The Blu-ray release of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s family drama "We Bought a Zoo" will include a free children’s admission to the zoo!

According to a press release, the Lake Superior Zoo has partnered with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) and 20th Century Fox to include a free child’s admission to an AZA zoo, while supplies last.

“This heartwarming story is in line with our vision of wholesome family activities,” Director of Animal Care, Peter Pruett said in the release. “The animals in the movie received exemplary care and that’s always our number one priority.”

“If the movie inspires people to head to their zoo to visit the animals and connect with nature it gives us an opportunity to further educate the public on our mission of conservation and why modern zoos exist.”

"We Bought a Zoo" also received a stamp of approval from the American Humane Association.

Donating Coins to Fight Childhood Cancer

Schoolchildren and parents in four Northland communities can donate coins during April to help fight childhood cancer.

The Duluth Noon Optimist Club and the Superior Optimist Club have organized a fundraiser to benefit families served by Essentia Health's Erick Peter Person Children's Cancer Center in Duluth.

During April, special coin canisters are being placed in schools in Duluth, Superior, Maple and Iron River, says Mike Pennington, the fundraiser's chairman for the Duluth club.

Kim Pearson and Liz Amys are coordinating the campaign for the Superior club. Childhood cancer campaigns are a focus of Optimist Clubs around the world, Pennington explains.

Edison Charter Schools in Duluth are using the drive to help teach children the monthly core value of hope, Pennington says.
